Saltillo parents charged with child neglect

TUPELO, Miss. (AP) – A child is in a Memphis hospital and his parents are in jail, accused of not seeking medical attention for the 3-year-old.

Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (http://bit.ly/1RedlBF) the boy normally lives with a non-parental caregiver, but was staying with his parents, 36-year-old Courtney Perkins and 35-year-old Jeremy Perkins, both of Saltillo, over the holidays.

Johnson says the caregiver took the child to the parents over the weekend and there was a four-wheeler accident and the child suffered some sort of head injury.

He says the parents told authorities the child fell, hit his head on a table and went into convulsions.

The sheriff says the parents face a charge of child neglect.

Online jail records do not list an attorney for the couple.
