Rep. Andy Holt to President Obama: ‘… shove it’
JACKSON, Tenn. — A local state representative is getting national attention with his vocal opposition of new gun regulations. President Barack Obama made it clear Tuesday he believes gun control is key for saving lives, but local lawmakers said not in Tennessee.
“Take your gun control and shove it.” — That’s the headline that topped Rep. Andy Holt’s statement blasting President Obama’s actions on gun control, saying they are unconstitutional.
No matter what party you’re a part of, gun rights will always be a hot topic.
“This is not only a Republican issue, not only a Democrat issue or an Independent issue — this is an American issue,” Holt said
An emotional President Obama took center stage Tuesday announcing his new executive actions against guns.
“We’re here not to debate the last mass shooting but to do something to try to prevent the next one,” President Obama said.
With his proposals comes a warning to practically every gun seller to conduct background checks or risk prosecution, plus new FBI and ATF agents as well as $500 million for mental health care.
“It’s fundamentally un-American,” Holt said. “It does nothing to prevent the types of shootings that he spoke about at length.”
Rep. Holt took his opinion to Twitter, telling the president to “shove it.”
“No personal pulling, no crocodile tears and no flawed studies are going to change the minds of Tennesseans about their right to keep and bear arms,” Holt said.
Holt said the only way the president will be able to enforce these actions here in the Volunteer State is if he comes down and does it himself.
“I can guarantee anyone who comes to my house to try and disarm me or my family, they won’t leave successfully with my firearms and they may not even leave alive,” Rep. Holt said.
The two U.S. Congressmen from West Tennessee also spoke out against the president’s actions.
Congressman Stephen Fincher said, “The president’s decision to punish law-abiding Americans is nothing more than a diversion tactic.”
Congressman Marsha Blackburn said, “The president’s actions are only aimed at satisfying his desire to go down in history as a liberal icon.”
