Accused gunman appears on charges from east Jackson robbery
JACKSON, Tenn. — Police have charged a man in a Tuesday robbery in east Jackson.
Derrick DeWayne Robinson is accused of robbing a man at gunpoint just before 6 p.m. in the area of Middle and First streets, according to court documents.
Police say the victim told them he was standing outside his truck when a man approached him from behind, pulled a handgun from his pocket and racked the slide, loading the chamber.
The man then tried to search the victim’s pockets and asked “Where the money is?” When the victim answered, he told police the man then fired the gun.
The victim told police the gunman then stole money from his wallet and got in the victim’s vehicle.
When police arrived, they say the suspect was sitting in the victim’s vehicle before fleeing on foot.
Officers apprehended the man, later identified as Robinson, and also recovered a pistol from the area where he ran.
They also reportedly found an empty shell casing and one un-fired round where Robinson allegedly fired the gun.
Robinson is charged with aggravated robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, evading arrest, resisting arrest and public intoxication.
