Union University offers new scholarship for local students
JACKSON, Tenn. — A new scholarship from Union University is rewarding West Tennessee students for choosing to go to school there.
The school says they’re offering a $1,500 scholarship to any student from West Tennessee with a high school GPA of 2.0.
School officials say they wanted to reward the area that makes up nearly 60 percent of their student body.
“A large number of our students do come from West Tennessee,” said Dan Griffin, vice president of enrollment management for the school. “Even though Union has 44 states and 33 countries in their student body, a lot of the students do reside here in West Tennessee, so we were just trying to find a way to make it more financially possible for those students to enroll at Union.”
The award is available for new traditional undergraduate Union students beginning in the fall of 2016.
