Petal reaches agreement with Hattiesburg over sewer rates
PETAL, Miss. (AP) – The city of Petal is celebrating a legal win.
WDAM-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1PUaAUq ) Mayor Hal Marx says the city reached an agreement with Hattiesburg over sewer rates.
Marx says the dispute was about giving citizens a fair rate. He says the city now has a formula in place so that in the future, the sewer rate will continue to have a fair rate for wastewater treatment.
This has been a contentious issue since August 2013, when Petal sued Hattiesburg for increasing fees for the use of Hub City sewage lagoons.
Marx says they’re glad an agreement was reached without having to go to trial.
