Mayor speaks out after deadly Bolivar shooting

HARDEMAN COUNTY, Tenn. — The mayor of Bolivar is sharing his condolences for the victim’s family and praising the police department’s quick response after a deadly Friday night shooting.

Shooting InvestigationOfficers with the Bolivar Police Department responded Friday night to a shooting that left one person dead, according to a release from the office of Mayor Barrett Stevens.

The alleged gunman, Jammy Harbin, 46, was arrested shortly after police were notified.

The homicide victim’s name has not been released. Authorities say his identity will be released once his family out of state has been notified.

“It’s a sad day for our city to see violence that takes the life of one of our citizens,” Stevens states in the release.

The mayor goes on to praise the police department’s quick response.

“I am proud of the way our police handled the situation and they were on the scene in two minutes, they quickly had the scene under control, arrested the individual almost immediately and had the witness statements gathered that night and their information collected quickly.”

“I want to say our city has not only lost one of our citizens, but our nation has lost someone who has put their life on the line multiple times for our freedom and that needs to be recognized and appreciated. Multiple families are grieveing right now and have suffered loss. There are no words or actions that can change that. Our thoughts and prayers are with both families. God bless them.”
