Local groups provide shelter to those in need during winter weather
JACKSON, Tenn. — A recent plunge in temperatures has local organizations working to take in as many people in need as they can during the cold nights.
Area Relief Ministries offers shelter to men through their Room in the Inn ministry, and the Dream Center works with women and children to provide them shelter.
“We do have a few extra beds that we keep in case of an emergency or if the police find somebody on the side of the street or the hospital calls us or something like that,” said Gail Gustafson with the Dream Center. “We try to keep an open bed or an area where we can at least take them in for the night.”
According to the Area Relief Ministries website, nearly 50 churches participate in the Room in the Inn ministry.
