Police: 2 charged with embezzling over $74K from business

GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) – Two women have been charged after police say they embezzled more than $74,000 from a Greenville financial service center.

Greenville Assistant Police Chief Michael Merchant tells the Delta Democrat-Times (http://bit.ly/1UQRuOg) that both 29-year-old Crystal B. Jones and 23-year-old Raven S. Stokes are charged with embezzlement.

Merchant says the two women created fake loans and stole the thousands of dollars last year from the business.

He says Jones turned herself into police Sunday. Police say she embezzled $55,125 over an eight-month period from the business.

Stokes was arrested Friday. Police say she embezzled $19,650.

Merchant says Jones and Stokes are being held on bond. It isn’t immediately clear whether they have attorneys.
