School board meeting answers serious questions
JACKSON, Tenn. — Parents and teachers get answers about who will lead individual schools in the district under ‘Vision 2020.’ “None of our employees will lose their position or lose their job as a result of ‘Vision 2020.’ Everyone that works with with us currently that has a position will have a position for 2016-2017,” said Jackson-Madison County Schools Superintendent, Verna Ruffin.
However, Ruffin could not guarantee that everyone will stay in the same position as five schools will close after this school year as part of this restructuring plan. “We’ve had a lot of opportunities to really look strategically at what we need to make our system successful.”
Some of those who attended the Thursday night meeting are satisfied with the results. “I think that even though there were mistakes in the past, they’re working out for our good now,” said Jackson Madison County Education Association President, Earline Price.
Other Major changes announced included changing the name of Jackson Central-Merry High School to Jackson Central-Merry Early College High.
“It’ll take time, none of us are believing it’s gonna be an immediate result, but we do believe very strongly that this is gonna be very powerful,” Said Ruffin.
