Lane Dragons catching fire at the right time

JACKSON, Tenn —  The Lane Dragons men’s basketball team are heating up just at the right time.

They’ve now won 3 straight games for the first time all season, but they say the best is yet to come.

DragonsWinningStreakThe Dragons improved to 10-8 on the year with their win Saturday against Lemoyne-Owen here in the Hub City.

Players say now that they’ve got their momentum moving in the right direction, there’s no looking back.

“We were just putting the pieces together, trying to get everyone to come together as one,” Lane redshirt freshman forward, Kendarius Ash, explained. “We started off bad, but we’re coming along. Coming together as a team.”

“We just had to click together and really come together and play together as a whole,” Lane sophomore guard, Tevyn Roberts, said. “Just go with what we know.”

And what the Dragons know is how to win at home.

Lane is 6-3 on the season at J.F. Lane Gymnasium, including a current 4-game home winning streak.

It’s that excitement that the team said makes playing at home that much more special.

“Our crowd is always a little rowdy, but I guess, it was crazy,” Lane senior center, Joseph Cooper said about Saturday’s crowd. “I can’t explain how crazy it was here. We’re like a run-and-gun type team so when we get steals, and we get out in the open court, we’re unstoppable.”

“The atmosphere was filled with so much energy. We fed off them,” Lane men’s basketball coach, Bryanth Basemore said. “We’d make a play and it could be something as simple as just diving for a loose ball, they’d just and react to it. I think my guys really fed off their energy.”

The Dragons finish the season with 8 of their 11 remaining games on the road.

They’ll play again Thursday night at Tuskegee.
