Local church hosts Dr. King remembrance service

Hundreds gathered at Mt. Zion Baptist Church for for the special ceremony.

JACKSON, Tenn. — Hundreds gathered Monday morning at Mt. Zion Baptist Church for a special ceremony in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist and other elected officials presented a proclamation to the NAACP recognizing the group for Monday’s events.

“It’s just been a great day,” Lane NAACP Adviser Ameera Graves said. “We’re very thankful for the turnout and the enthusiasm about this national King holiday 2016.”

Organizers say they plan to continue this tradition.
