Crime Victims Recognized at Tree Planting Ceremony

JACKSON, Tenn.- The Board of Parole and the Tennessee Department of Corrections along with WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News anchor Tom Britt gathered to honor National Crime Victims Rights Week by planting trees. The trees are for crime victims that will grow and become a permanent part of the Shirlene Mercer Park in east Jackson. The trees planted serve as living symbols of the crime victims. Since the two organizations started hosting these events four dozen trees have been planted at several locations across the state. “I hope that everybody of this everyone will become more aware,” said Randy Hall, sone of crime victim. This event was one of eight being held across the state to honor crime victims.
