Thompson: Durant gets loan, grant to improve sewer system

BOLTON, Miss. (AP) – The City of Durant has been approved for a $1.7 million loan and a $3.8 million grant to help rehabilitate its sewer system.

U.S. Rep. Bennie G. Thompson, in a news release Wednesday, said the funds are going to the city through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development division as part of its water and waste disposal loan and grant program.

The funds will be used for the rehabilitation of the collection/sewer system and to include a lagoon levee revetment at the wastewater treatment facility.

Thompson says the city’s sewer system has multiple blockages and leaks within its piping system and has exhausted its expected design life and must be replaced.
