Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Week: Amy Dickson
JACKSON, Tenn. — Amy Dickson is a kindergarten teacher at Arlington Elementary School and says she has always wanted to work with children.
“I think I’ve just always been drawn to them and want to help in some way and be of service in some way, and this is the best way that I could think to do that.”
She says kindergarten is a fun age to teach and that her students are always excited to learn. “They have the funniest stores and they’re so energetic,” Dickson said. “I love how joyful they are.”
Her favorite part about teaching is watching her students develop throughout the year. “They’re just starting school and it’s so much fun to see them go from where they start out at the beginning to the very end — they grow up so fast.
Dickson has been teaching for 15 year and actually grew up in Jackson. She says a good educator is passionate about their job.
“To me, if you come in every single day and you have a goal set in mind for these children to grow as much as you would want your own children to grow, then you’re going to do the best job you can and get them to where they need to be before they leave you.”
Starting in February, you’ll be able to vote for her or any of the other nominees at seehowitaddsup.com.
