Employee accused of helping steal from Jackson retailer
JACKSON, Tenn. — A woman appeared Monday in city court on accusations of helping someone steal from the retailer where she worked.
Aphrika Bass is accused of voiding all but one item while checking out a customer Nov. 20 at Essex Bargain Hunt, located on Old Hickory Boulevard, according to court papers.
Police say surveillance video shows Bass rang up 16 items and then voided all but one, allowing the customer to leave the store with $215 worth of merchandise without paying.
Bass allegedly admitted to voiding the items.
She is charged with embezzlement under $500.
Bass is free on a $5,000 bond.
