Police release more details in Jackson fatal shooting deaths

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Police have identified the second of two women who were fatally shot in Jackson over the weekend.

Local media outlets report that Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart says 29-year-old Stephanie D. Mejia was killed Sunday. Twentey-three-year-old Janis N. Evans had already been identified as the other victim in the shooting.

Family members have said that Evans was three months pregnant. Jackson Police Chief Lee Vance says police are awaiting the outcome of the autopsy to confirm the pregnancy.

Commander Tyree Jones says two male suspects wearing dark clothing were seen fleeing the scene.

Vance says one of the women was shot in the car and appears to have been shot in the back of the head. The other woman was shot in the face and the chest.
