Blues Competition Sparks Tourism
Thousands of blues fans head to Memphis for the International Blues Challenge.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -Tourism during the winter months like January is usually slow in most destinations, but Memphis, Tennessee does not have that issue this week.
The International Blues Challenge has artists and fans of blues music coming to Tennessee from all over the world.
More than 900 musicians will be performing over this 4-day event that began Tuesday night on Beale St.
The Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau said this is the perfect time of year for tourists.
“It’s really a good time to be in the city,” said Jonathan Lyons. “Especially on Beale St. at night because you’ll have the pleasure of hearing these real authentic blues bands that normally wouldn’t be here from around the world competing.”
The visitors bureau said although most visitors are here for the blues competition, tourists usually plan to see all Tennessee has to offer during their stay.
