Lady Bulldogs playing tougher

JACKSON, Tenn. — Most college basketball coaches would be content with a 17-2 record. Union University’s Mark Campbell isn’t most coaches.

Despite being ranked No. 14 in the Division II rankings, Campbell sees a lot of room for growth on offense.Screen shot 2016-01-27 at 10.29.47 PM

“I think we’re becoming a little tougher, ” Union’s women’s head basketball coach said. “We have a little more will about us especially in tough situations.”

That growth in physicality showed last week during the Lady Bulldogs road trip.

Union’s last two games were decided by a total of three points. Both contests ended in wins.

“We had freshman step up and make big plays,” Campbell said. “Some veterans made some big shots late, and really do some things at the end of some possessions defensively that we weren’t doing early.”

Union and Delta State play on Thursday for the top spot in the Gulf South Conference. Tip off is at 6 p.m.
