DOWNTOWN JACKSON — With a new workshop, area leaders like Hardin County Mayor Kevin Davis hope to expand economic growth among their communities.

“We’re trying to grow our citizens to make a life better for them,” Mayor Davis said.

“We’re delivering these two-day programs in an introduction to economic development throughout the whole Delta Regional Authority including Tennessee,” Delta Regional Authority Director Mark Goodman said.

Goodman says this new economic development plan can also pump money into the community and build homes. “It’s doing things we can to help our rural communities. There’s a lot of resources available in the urban areas and not so much in rural areas, yet economic development needs are just as great.”

Strategies to meet the need of developing new sources of revenue were discussed during the meeting along with ensuring health care needs and increasing construction. Mayor Davis says he’s already come up with several ideas he plans to take back to Hardin County. “Carrying these ideas and things I’m learning from this meeting will help me as a mayor and help our community move forward.”

Thursday’s program was part of a 32-workshop series throughout eight states.
