According to Chief Julian Wiser, officers first spotted the suspect near the Exxon station at North Highland Avenue and Charjean Drive wearing a mask.  The convenience store was robbed by a gunman the night before.  He led police on a brief chase, eventually bailing out of his car and into some woods.  Officers tracked him to the home on Woodgrove Drive.

Wiser said the suspect fired at officers from inside the house.  Officers did not return fire.   No one was hit.

A negotiator and the S.W.A.T. were called to the scene.

The chief would not say if the home is the suspect’s, someone he knows or a stranger.

People who live nearby were evacuated as a precaution.  Neighbors said this area is usually very quite.
