MSU student body president could be impeached for tweet
OXFORD, Miss. (AP) – Mississippi State University’s student association senators have voted to begin impeachment proceedings against their student body president after he publicly endorsed a candidate to be his successor.
The Commercial Dispatch reports that the senators filed a charge of misconduct against SA President JoJo Dodd for using social media Monday to back SA Vice President Roxanne Raven for his own seat in next week’s student body election.
Student association bylaws prohibit executive officers from publicly supporting any candidate.
The association’s judicial council previously mandated Dodd recant his statement, acknowledge the unconstitutionality of his action and apologize to MSU students.
As of Friday morning, Dodd’s endorsement was still pinned at the top of his Twitter feed.
Dodd said in a statement that he wants to “make MSU a better place,” regardless of the possible consequences.
