Revived crime walk kicks off in East Jackson

EAST JACKSON, Tenn. — Saint Murphy is still coping with loosing his son, Beau Reid last July after he was murdered in East Jackson. “It’s Just a tragedy, I’m just going through this all the time, ad I’m always thinking about him all the time,” said Murphy.

Screen Shot 2016-01-29 at 9.05.53 PMMurphy is now working in the crime march led by City Councilman Johnny Dodd in an effort to stop the violence. “We’ve had 3 murders this year and it’s sad that we have a lot of senseless murders going on for no reason at all,” said Councilman Dodd.

Dodd decided to revive the anti crime walk, a short walk around the community in an effort to stand out against violence. Councilman Dodd initiated the walk over 20 years ago, but as years went by the walk stopped.

Dodd says the he now has a new reason to walk. “Some young ladies called me and they’re tired of loosing young men in their lives, and have to raise their kids on their own.”

Dodd insists that it’s not going to be an easy task, but with the help of the younger generation, they can make a positive change in the community. “We need young people, need young men, need young women to take part of this to take a stand.”
