City council set to vote on solid waste contract
JACKSON, Tenn.- The Jackson City Council will vote Tuesday morning on who will take on the city’s solid waste contract.
Red River Waste Solutions and Waste Management are the two contenders for garbage collection in the city.
Perhaps the biggest topic of conversation has been a $3.2 million difference in the bids.
At the last meeting, the council tabled the vote. Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist said the council has done a lot of work to make their final decision since last meeting.
“I think council has done their due diligence in doing their research. I think the one month that we had since the table has been well served,”
said Mayor Gist.
“Our bid is roughly the same as cost to the city as currently being bid to the city. The other proposal is $3.2 million higher, so that’s a 9 percent increase,” said Steve Smith with Red River Waste Solutions.
“We know what the costs are to provide the most efficient services to the city of Jackson that meets the needs that were made in the request,”
said Dawn Cole of Waste Management.
The city council meets at City Hall at 9 a.m. That meeting is open to the public.
