Former police officer gets prison in Saucier gun store heist

GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) – Two Harrison County men have been sentenced to prison for the theft of 52 weapons from a licensed firearms dealer in Saucier.

The Sun Herald reports 51-year-old Kevin Gerard Edwards and 34-year-old Willie Carter are two of five men prosecuted in U.S. District Court for guns stolen in a break-in at Saucier Friendly Auto and Pawn the weekend of June 6.

Edwards received a 10-year prison term and a $5,000 fine in a judgment filed in court records on Monday. Edwards received the maximum prison term and the largest fine in the case so far.

Carter, identified in a document as a former officer with the Columbia Police Department, received a 37-month prison term and was fined $2,500 fine.
