North Side HS head football coach resigns
JACKSON, Tenn. — North Side High School’s head football coach Tab Vowell is resigning after 11 total years at the ‘Reservation.’
Vowell shared the news with his team on Wednesday.
“It’s just good to take a step back. I really thought our program is in really good shape,” Vowell said. “There’s nothing really to it.”
Vowell said that his decision to resign wasn’t complicated, but he wanted to “catch his breath a little bit.”
“I told them the program is going to keep advancing,” Vowell said about telling his players the news. “I enjoyed my time there. The person that comes in, I feel has really great opportunity.
“They’re sitting in a good situation. You have a big senior class next year.”
Under the helm of Vowell, the Indians experienced a mass amount of success. His best year was in 2012 when the team finished 13-1 and reached the state semifinals.
“You would think that’s what sticks out, but really what sticks out is the relationships you had with the players,” Vowell said. “That’s still going to be consistent and will be there.”
Vowell laughed about what he’ll do with his free time.
“I don’t know. It’s something I’ve never had,” Vowell said.
Principal Jason Bridgeman said Vowell has been an awesome coach and will be hard to replace.
His resignation will be effective at the end of the school year.
