Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Week: Aimee Patton

DYER, Tenn. — Aimee Patton teaches 4th grade math and science at Dyer School in Gibson County, the same area where she grew up.

Aimee Patton“This is my stomping ground, I guess you could say,” Patton said. “So I know a lot of the faces here, a lot of the families, and that’s even more important to be able to help teach their kids and get them to do their best.”

She’s been an educator for seven years and says it’s special to her to be able to mold her students.

“It’s really an honor to be a teacher. It’s tough but it’s special, because you have your hands on, you know, being able to push the kids to be doctors or to be nurses or they may grow up to be a teacher themselves.”

Patton says they do a lot of hands-on learning and partner work in order to help her students understand a concept.

“If they can apply it and can see it first hand and they can put their hand in there and really see how it works, then I think it really does help.”

She says her favorite part of being an educator is getting to know and inspire her students.

“Being there for the kids, just being around them day in and day out when they’re down, when they’re up and just being the rock for them.”

Patton will now be eligible for the statewide Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award. Starting in March, to vote for her or any of the other nominees go to seehowitaddsup.com. To nominate a teacher for our weekly award, you can email us at educator@wbbjtv.com.
