NWS releases more info on Crockett Co. tornado

CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — The National Weather Service has released more details about the tornado that struck the area Tuesday evening.

Tornado graphicThe EF-1 tornado’s path was reportedly 100 yards wide and spanned just more than two and a half miles, according to an NWS release. The tornado’s maximum wind speed is estimated at 95 mph.

The tornado formed about 4:55 p.m. around three miles west to southwest of Alamo, according to the release.

It is listed as having ended at 5:03 p.m. about two miles west to northwest of Alamo.

The tornado snapped and uprooted trees in the area of the Crockett County Golf Club, according to the release. It also caused roof damage to homes along Highway 412 and overturned two tractor-trailers along the highway. One of the drivers was injured.

The tornado then crossed Highway 88 and damaged the roof of several buildings at Crockett County High School. It then went on to damage more storage sheds and homes on the east side of North Cavalier Drive before dissipating, according to the release.

The EF-1 classification includes tornadoes with winds of 86 to 110 mph.

The release says the information is preliminary and subject to change pending final review.
