Police: Couple on crime spree spotted in Milan
MILAN, Tenn. — A couple on the run for days after being accused in a multi-state crime spree may have found their way to West Tennessee.
Police said they were spotted Wednesday by a vigilant car dealer in Milan. Investigators said Blake Fitzgerald and Brittany Harper are their own version of Bonnie and Clyde, and are accused of committing multiple kidnappings and robberies across the south.
Lveon Emert said Wednesday afternoon the couple came into his car lot with cash looking to buy a car quick, but they could not make a deal.
“You could just tell that something wasn’t right,” Emert said. “That’s why I told them there’s nothing I can do for you, you need to go somewhere else. Now come to find out that’s the best decision I made all year.”
No more than 20 minutes after they left, Emert said he was watching the news in his office when the couple showed up on the screen, wanted.
“I texted their photo to the people that were in here and every single one of them said, ‘oh my gosh, that’s her,” Emert said. “It’s crazy.”
Police said Fitzgerald and Harper both are wanted in connection with multiple kidnappings and robberies across the South the most recent at a gas station in Georgia.
Milan police said another car lot just up Highway 45 may have also encountered the duo.
“They want to avoid the interstates and the big cities,” Chief Bobby Sellers said. “So usually they’ll use roads like this.”
Police now asking residents to keep an eye out so they do not become the next victims.
“People have to be alert, especially now in West Tennessee,” Emert said “There’s no telling what they’re doing, anyone could fall for their trap, anyone.”
Police said the two may also be traveling with another man, Hubert Pugh, whose ID was used to attempt to test drive a car at the dealer.
They were last seen driving away in a 90’s model white Ford F-250 extended cab pick-up truck.
Fitzgerald and Harper are being sought by the U.S. Marshals Service. They are offering a $10,000 reward for any information leading to their arrest.
