Local school board member spends 10 days volunteering in Dominican Republic
JACKSON, Tenn. — Educators across the country come together to help build schools for children in impoverished countries through Lifetouch Memory Mission.
Jackson-Madison County School Board member Bob Alvey spent 10 days making a difference. He went with a group of 50 to build a new school in the city of Constanza in the Dominican Republic. It’s a project Alvey says was much needed.
“There is one very small one-room school house in that community, and it’s not even large enough to even handle all the kids that attend there,” Alvey said. “Many of them cannot attend school currently or they have to walk a very long distance to attend school.”
