Jackson Parking Tickets May Get Sent to Collection Agency

JACKSON, Tenn.- If you have an outstanding number of parking tickets the City of Jackson is not going to try to get you to pay them anymore… that’s because the city is hiring someone else do to that for them. The city is handing the tickets over to a collection agency with hopes of getting more people to pay thir fines and pay on time. But the new plan is getting mixed reviews from those who drive in Jackson. “I just don’t think it’s a good idea. I think the city ought to handle their own business,” said Pat Curry. “Just let somebody else worry about it after so many you know after so long it turns delinquent let the collection agency worry about it,” said Laura Collins. If passed, the new ordinance would take effect July 1 and states drivers have 48 hours to call the city about their parking tickets. After that, the car’s owner will receive a letter. After 30 days, the matter can then be turned over to the collection agency. The proposal will come up for a vote next Tuesday.
