Temporary road closure along Country Club Lane impacts drivers

JACKSON, Tenn. — Drivers on a busy north Jackson road can expect temporary road delays this week.

A portion of the westbound lane on Country Club Lane has been intermittently closed while crews with the Jackson stormwater operations department have been working on a multi-phase repair.

George Barnes, superintendent of the stormwater operations department, said crews began work around 7 a.m. Tuesday.

William Carroll has been working along one of the impacted streets, Seventeen Green. “I think they’re widening the shoulder,” he said.

Barnes said they are also adding about 24 feet of concrete piping to an already existent storm drain.”Everything coming down County Club goes into that storm drain and goes into a catch basin over here,” he said.

A shoulder for roads similar to Country Club Lane typically have two to three feet of room, according to Barnes. The area being repaired in between Winfield Place and Seventeen Green was no longer compliant, something Barnes said could have been because of erosion from the current storm drain system.

“We just want to extend it to get this shoulder extended out to protect it,” Barnes said.

Despite snow for most of the morning Tuesday, crews were still working. “It’s just part of construction,” Barnes said.

City officials said it’s unclear how long the temporary road closure will last but that they hope to have the project completed by the end of the week.
