UT Martin students get wheels turning on speed limit sign bill

MARTIN, Tenn. — A group of University of Tennessee at Martin students are working to make a difference across the state.

UT Martin student Jordan Long speed limit sign billJordan Long and fellow UT Martin student Marabeth Kennedy wrote and presented a bill to regulate a maximum distance between speed limit signs on state-owned highways and interstates.

Only 10 bills from the student delegation across the state are even heard, and Long’s passed unanimously to be heard in a sub house committee.

“There is a bigger story to this than just we wrote a bill and passed it in,” Long said. “It’s more of, anyone that wants to change anything can make that happen — you just have to go and do it.”

Long says they are working on the amendment for the rest of the week and hope to present the bill again to the sub house committee within the next couple weeks.
