Police find new leads in Greenfield church vandalism investigation

GREENFIELD, Tenn. — Greenfield police say they found new developments Friday in their investigation of the vandalism discovered Thursday morning at Lighthouse Apostolic Church.

IMG_2756The Rev. Lynn McCall said their church was fine when they left around 9 p.m. after their Wednesday evening services.

“I was driving past the church as the officer called me and I seen it at the same time as I received his phone call,” McCall said. “Yeah, I was a little startled. I just wouldn’t think anyone would do that.”

Police said someone painted vulgar images and inappropriate phrases across the side of the church.

“We are going to have to paint the whole side of the church because it is kind of blotched up where the new paint and the old paint meet, so it will basically, the outside will have to be painted again,” McCall said.

He said even though those who vandalized the church intended to harm their church, the acts have only helped.

“I kind of think it backfired on whoever did it, but our church has come together and of course we have a great church and we work together,” he said.

The police said at this point in their investigation they don’t believe this was a hate crime.

If you have any information regarding the vandalism, you can contact the Greenfield Police Department at 731-235-3131.
