Roger Family Speaks After shooter charged with murder
JACKSON, Tenn.-“Got a knock on the door in the middle of the night saying my little brother got shot,” said Latoya Rogers.
Almost two years after Jamar Rogers was fatally shot in this parking lot along the Highway 45 Bypass, his family said they are relieved an arrest has been made.
“I feared for my family not knowing who this person was,” said Jamar’s older sister Latoya. “Blessed happy that he’s off the streets.”
Corbyn Davis is now charged with first degree murder after police said witnesses identified him in a line-up.
Jamar’s brother, Fredrick said he knew Corbyn Davis was behind the shooting almost immediately and questioned why it took so long for police to make an arrest.
“It should have been sooner,” said Fredrick. “I knew three days after it happened who did it so I’m just like the community needs to come together and stop all of this.”
Jackson Police said they need the community’s help to solve cases like this faster.
Although the case against Davis is just getting started, the family said it feels good to know he is being held responsible.
“It’s closure but it doesn’t bring him back to me,” said Jamar’s niece, Darnaisha Jones. “Can’t call him, I can’t hold him. I’m happy he (Davis) is locked up, but it don’t bring him back.”
Although it took almost 2 years to charge someone in connection to Jamar Rogers’ death, the family said they are thankful to the investigators who never gave up because they have given them a sense of peace.
Corbyn Davis is being held without bond at the Criminal Justice Complex. He is scheduled to return to court next week.
