Mayor: Search for new Memphis police director to begin soon

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland says the search for the city’s next police director will begin soon.

The Commercial Appeal reports (bit.ly/1U5EWVm) Strickland announced Monday that the International Association of Chiefs of Police will start conducting the national search for the position in the next three weeks.

Strickland says IACP will be paid $30,000 to $40,000, and that the city would be on track to have a permanent police director in the next four to eight months.

He says the next director could get a multi-year contract and a higher salary, but he isn’t sure yet how much that salary would be raised.

Memphis Police Interim Director Mike Rallings has not said whether he’ll seek the permanent director’s position.
