Miami men charged in Mississippi bogus credit card bust

GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) – Mississippi sheriff’s deputies have arrested three Florida men, who they say had a credit card counterfeiting machine in their vehicle.

Sheriff Troy Peterson said in a news release received by The Sun Herald 28-year-old Steven Lee Mitchell, 20-year-old Jovany Appolon and 23-year-old Daniel Costa-Sousa, all of Miami, were arrested Thursday. They each face a charge of possession of a counterfeit instrument.

Peterson says deputies conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 10, and noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

During a search of the vehicle, Peterson says they found burnt marijuana, multiple prepaid credit cards and an embosser used to make counterfeit credit cards.

The men are being held on bonds of $50,000 each.

Online jail records do not list attorneys for the men.
