Health officials in Mississippi report flu-related death
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Mississippi health officials have reported a flu-related death in northwest Mississippi.
The Department of Health reports that it’s the state’s first flu-related death in a minor since the flu season began in 2015.
A total of fourteen minors have died from flu infections in Mississippi since 2007.
Officials started collecting reports of flu-related deaths in those younger than age 18 starting that year.
The health department did not name the student or identify where they were from.
But the Delta Democrat-Times says it was a seventh-grader at a school in Greenville. The newspaper said the school has been closed until Wednesday.
