Dyer County seeks second-straight district championship
NEWBERN, Tenn — Ten years ago the oldest players for the Dyer County Chactaws weren’t even in middle school, but the school’s basketball program was starting a tradition that’s lasted a full decade.
That tradition? Playing for district championships.
Tuesday night will marks the 10th year in a row that the Dyer County boys have played in a district tournament championship game when they face off with Brighton.
Coaches said even though they split the season series with the Cardinals, they’re confident in their experience in big games.
“Our kids know what its like to play for a district title. This has been a familiar territory for us for years,” Dyer County head basketball coach, Derek McCord said. “We’ve been to the state tournament 3 times in the last 6 years. Our kids are looking forward to it. They know what’s at stake. It’s just gonna come down to can we get out there, get after it and have some fun and of course we spell fun W-I-N.”
Dyer County and Brighton tip-off Tuesday night at 7:30 PM.
