Area businesses honored at annual ‘Jewel Awards’

JACKSON, Tenn.-Hundreds of people packed Oman Arena Friday night for the 15th annual Jewel Awards.

The event, hosted by the Jackson-Madison County African American Chamber of Commerce, recognized outstanding African American entrepreneurs and business owners. It also raised funds for the “Follow Me into Business” youth development program.

Event organizer Clarence Boone said local support has made it all possible.

“It’s been a great success. But it’s only been a success because the community people have gotten behind us,” said Boone.

In service for more than 20-years, Poe Electric Service and Repair took home this year’s Jewel Award.
Actress and comedian Flo Roach emceed the annual event.
