Man dies after being shot by constable in Laurel County

LONDON, Ky. (AP) – Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of a man by a constable in Laurel County.

In a news release, Laurel County Sheriff John Root says Constable Bobby Joe Smith was attempting to serve a warrant on a man at a business when the shooting took place on Friday night.

The sheriff’s office says the man died at the scene. No further details about the shooting were available Saturday.

An autopsy will be performed on the man who was shot. His name was not immediately released.

The sheriff’s office says detectives are investigating the shooting. A presentation on the case will be made before the next term of the Laurel County grand jury.
