Judge: DCS “dropped the ball” in some child deaths
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A Nashville judge says after seeing case files of children who were killed as a result of abuse and neglect that it’s clear that some social workers with the state Department of Children’s Services dropped the ball and she wondered whether the young victims would ever get justice. Davidson County Chancellor Carol McCoy made the remarks on Friday during a hearing where she released 42 records of cases of children who died or nearly died while under the supervision of DCS. McCoy said in some cases it had taken several months for autopsies to be performed and she raised the question of whether there was any autopsy at all in other cases. The files were released after several media organizations sued to get access to the records.
