JACKSON, Tenn. – A second man has been charged in connection with a double murder in downtown Jackson. According to Jackson police, Travontay Berry, of Jackson, surrendered Monday morning at the Jackson Police Department on charges related to the double murder of Brian Banes and Delandis Clark. Berry, 26, is scheduled to be formally arraigned via video link at 8:00 a.m., Tuesday, on charges of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and tampering with evidence. On April 28 around 3:05 a.m., police were called to a shooting at Wolfe Enterprises at 438 E. Main Street. Officers arrived to find Banes and Clark, both 31, of Jackson, with apparent gunshot wounds. They were transported to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital where they were later pronounced dead. Two other gunshot victims arrived at the hospital via personal vehicles. The ongoing investigation determined there was an argument on the parking lot of 438 E. Main Street as a party was letting out. Berry was allegedly the first person to fire a semi-automatic handgun into the air while he was standing in a crowd of people. Subsequently, Anthony Montrell Swift, of Jackson, is accused of shooting Banes and Clark multiple times. After the shootings, police said that Berry left the scene and disposed of the weapon that he fired. The Jackson Police Department’s Gang Unit and the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Swift, 31, on May 7. Swift is being held at the Madison County Jail with no bond as he is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and possession of a weapon with the intent to go armed for having the loaded gun during his arrest. This remains an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Jackson Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit at 731-425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at 731-424-8477 (TIPS).
