Free hazardous waste disposal service coming to Lexington

LEXINGTON, Tenn. — The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation is offering a mobile household waste collection service this weekend.

On Saturday, March 25, residents will have the chance to dispose of household hazardous waste at three locations across the state, in Franklin, Lawrence and Henderson Counties.

In Henderson County, the drop-off location will be at the Henderson County Convenience Center, located at 264 Mig Drive in Lexington, from 8 a.m. to noon.

A news release states a person does not need to live in the county to participate.

“We are pleased to provide this opportunity to dispose of household hazardous waste properly,” Commissioner David Salyers of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) said. “We want to make it as convenient as possible for Tennesseans to demonstrate their commitment to protecting the environment.”

Items eligible for disposal include cleaning fluids, pesticides, swimming pool chemicals, lithium batteries, aerosols, adhesives and more.

Items such as ammunition, explosives, paint, and electronics will not be accepted.
