Chew Sawyer, 29, of Bells is charged in the incident. Police say a homeowner returned to their Cloverdale Street residence Wednesday and found Sawyer, a stranger to them, on their property, according to a release from the Jackson Police Department.

Police say there was an argument between the two and that Sawyer pulled a gun on the homeowner. The homeowner then stabbed Sawyer in the neck, according to police. Officers recovered the gun at the scene.

Sawyer was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and then airlifted to a Memphis hospital. He was released from the hospital Thursday night and arrested by the Bells Police Department Friday morning.

Sawyer is being held at the Madison County Jail and is set to be arraigned Monday in Jackson City Court. Police say his charges will be made public at the formal arraignment.
