Accused gunman who was stabbed by homeowner appears in court

JACKSON, Tenn. — A man police say was stabbed in the neck after pulling a gun on a Jackson homeowner appeared Monday in City Court.

According to court papers, Sawyer came to the home and asked for someone the homeowner said did not live there.

Sawyer then refused to leave, and during a resulting argument police say he pulled a handgun from the waistband of his pants. The homeowner then stabbed Sawyer in the neck in self-defense, according to police.

They say Sawyer then began kicking the front door of the home.

When police arrived, they reportedly found Sawyer on the curb and found a Glock .40 caliber handgun nearby. The gun had blood on it, and officers ran a check and found it to be stolen out of Bells, according to court documents.

Sawyer is charged with aggravated assault, attempted aggravated burglary, employing a firearm during commission of a dangerous felony, felon in possession of a firearm, theft of property, and tampering with evidence, according to court papers.
