Bells, TN – Former Bells Mayor Harold Craig now has plenty of time to spend with his dog Cornbread. After two decades in office, he is proud of what he was able to do in office. “I could not talk about accomplishments without talking about the lagoon odor that we used to have. We got that cured. Everybody came through Bells and said, ‘Bells smells,’ I didn’t like that,” Craig said. Joe Williams, 69, is the new Mayor. This is his first week in office. Born and raised in Bells his father was city mayor from 1973 to 1976. “I want to make sure the financial parts are in good shape and also keep our taxes low as possible and make sure our gas and water department are profitable,” Williams said. Williams spent over 45 years in banking. He retired four years ago. “We are trying to develop [Hwy] 412 and that’s a hot spot there and that will bring more taxes to Bells. I also saw a need to improve the streets and certain things around in Bells,” Williams said. “I’ve got grandchildren, great grandchildren they gonna keep me busy. I will do something I won’t be bored I promise you that,” Craig said.
