JACKSON, Tenn. — A Texas fugitive described as a violent offender by the U.S. Marshals Service is arrested Wednesday night in Jackson. The search for Gregory Gill has been under way since December. Marshals said they’d suspected he’d been in the West Tennessee area for at least a month.

Gregory Gill Arrest

Gill was first spotted around 7:50 p.m. near the Old Hickory Mall in north Jackson but ran from officers after he was stopped. Police and marshals saturated the area around the mall. Around 9:30 p.m., the search ended after an officer spotted him in the parking lot of the Hermitage Apartments along Birchwood Lane just west of the mall.

According to marshals, Gill is from this area but is wanted in both San Angelo, Texas, and San Antonio, Texas. In San Angelo, he faces a count of injury to a child. In San Antonio, he’s wanted on counts of aggravated assault, assault by strangulation and bail jumping. In the case in San Antonio, Gill is accused of forcing his then-girlfriend into a tub full of bleach and trying to strangle her.

Marshals said Gill is a known gang member and that guns and drugs were found in the car that he abandoned. He’s expected to face local charges as well.
