Springfield police make arrest in hit-and-run cold case
SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (AP) – Springfield police have made an arrest in a previously unsolved fatal hit-and-run accident.
Media outlets report that 40-year-old Ronnie Glenn Gainous was arrested Tuesday and charged with leaving the scene of the accident with a death.
Springfield Police Chief David Thompson says that officers responded to a hit-and-run crash in South Springfield on Dec. 30, 2014. Responders found the body of 37-year-old Joseph Allen Moss, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Thompson says Springfield police first started looking at Gainous as a possible suspect more than a year ago, but it took time to build the case.
Detectives believe there were other people in the vehicle with Gainous, and Thompson says he expects more arrests in the case.
