Gregory Gill, 31, appeared Thursday before a judge in Jackson. He faces six counts including drug and weapons charges.

“It always feels good when you get somebody like that. You know their violent tendencies, you know they’ve hurt people,” Holt said.

Holt said Gill took off Wednesday night when police stopped his vehicle at the mall. WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News was there when officers took him into custody at the Hermitage Apartments along Birchwood Lane.

“Somebody spotted him going under a vehicle and made the call into JPD, and they were able to pinpoint exactly where he was,” Holt said.

In November 2015, investigators said Gill tried to hold his girlfriend’s head inside a tub of water and bleach at an apartment in Austin, Texas. U.S. Marshals said he is also wanted out of Texas for injuring a child.

“Anytime you get violent offenders like this off the street, you know, it’s just so much better for the community,” Holt said.

Investigators said they found a loaded handgun, cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia in Gill’s car.

Holt said he eventually will be extradited back to Texas.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Gill’s prior arrests date back to 2003 and include attempted first-degree murder and aggravated robbery.

Gill is currently being held at the Madison County Jail in lieu of a $30,000 bond.
