Inaugural sunrise service at the downtown Amp brings community together
JACKSON, Tenn. — Easter Sunday started early in downtown Jackson at the inaugural Easter sunrise service at the Amp.
First United Methodist Church, Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church, and Mount Zion Baptist Church hosted an outdoor service for the community, combining their traditions into a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
“It’s critical, especially in this day and age when there is such an emphasis on differences we can come together on the fact that of the risen Christ,” Reverend Gayle McCarty of St. Luke’s said.
The churches hope next year even more congregations will collaborate together in the service.
Almost 200 people attended the service, and the service raised more than $1,200 for local nonprofit RIFA.
